Add-on

Stop serving avatars from your own server

Media CDN moves your community’s avatars, cover photos and the photos members upload onto a global edge network. Storage is one pooled allowance shared across every site on your account, and your originals never leave your own server.

From $9 a month, billed separately from your plan.

Free while in beta. No credit card needed.

Why it matters

Community sites are image sites

A directory, a feed and a profile are mostly photographs of people. That is the load your host is carrying.

Avatars are on every page

A member directory is a hundred images at once. Served from your own origin they queue behind PHP; served from the CDN they arrive in parallel from a nearby city.

Your server stops carrying media

Image requests never reach your host, so the bandwidth and the CPU that used to go on avatars and album photos go back to the pages that need them.

Close to your members

Media is delivered from a global edge network. A community spread across time zones stops paying the round trip to wherever your host happens to be.

How it works

Three steps, then nothing to think about

  1. Step 1

    Approve your domain

From your WordPress admin, in one click. The site gets its own credential — no keys to copy and nothing to paste into a config file.
  2. Step 2

New uploads go to the CDN

Avatars, cover photos and the photos members post — albums, chat, activity — are stored and served from the edge as members upload them.
  3. Step 3

    Your originals stay put

Every file remains on your own server as well. Cancel whenever you like and your site carries on serving its own media, exactly as it does today.

Questions

Media CDN FAQ

Not to run your app, and not to try it — every paid Memberside plan includes 1 GB. A tier earns its place when avatars and member photos are slowing your pages down, or when your host charges for bandwidth. If your community is small and your host is fast, the included gigabyte may be all you ever need.

Your allowance is one bucket shared across every domain on your account, not a quota per site. Production, staging and a second community all draw from the same total, so a new site never needs a second subscription.

Nothing breaks and nothing is deleted. New uploads quietly go back to being served from your own server until you upgrade, and everything already on the CDN carries on working. Every tier is a hard cap rather than a meter, so there is no such thing as a surprise invoice.

No. WordPress keeps every original exactly where it is — the CDN is a delivery layer in front of it, not a migration. Turning the add-on off puts you back where you started with no cleanup.

Community media: member avatars and cover photos, and the photos members upload — albums, chat images, activity photos, and note, group, event and job pictures. Member videos can be switched on too; they are off by default because a few clips can use a lot of storage. Only what members upload is mirrored, not the rest of your media library.

Separately. Media CDN is its own subscription, so you can add it, change tier or cancel it without touching your app plan.
